Questions

How do I calculate a daily budget?

Take your monthly take-home pay, subtract fixed costs like rent, bills and anything you set aside, and divide what's left by 30. For example, $900 a month of spending money is $30 a day.

Why divide by 30?

Thirty gives you one steady number for every month. The rest-of-month line uses the actual days left in the month, so it stays accurate.

How are the category limits worked out?

Your top category gets 40% of your spending money, the second 20% and the third 15%, and the remaining 25% stays flexible. They're starting points; change them as you learn where your money goes.

What if I go over my daily budget?

Spend a little less over the next few days. Looking at the weekly total keeps one big day in perspective.

Are my numbers saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs in your browser.
